Heart surgery patient, 4, spends day out on the town in Houston

She traveled all the way from Nicaragua to get a lifesaving heart surgery here in Houston

HOUSTON – A little girl who is suffering from a congenital heart defect spent a day out on the town in Houston Wednesday.

Four-year-old Mariangel and her mother traveled all the way from Nicaragua to get a lifesaving heart surgery here in Houston. That surgery is scheduled to take place Thursday at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.

But as for Wednesday, the two spent the day having fun at the Build-a-Bear workshop in First Colony Mall.

Once the surgery is complete, Mariangel and her mother will be staying with a host family in Stafford while she recovers.
