HOUSTON - This weekend you can protect yourself from identity theft and help the environment.
Comerica Bank and Iron Mountain Incorporated will present the first annual Shred Day Houston. KPRC Local 2 is a proud sponsor.
This one-day, free public service event will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in he parking lot of Comerica Bank's Mangum Banking Center in the 2200 block of Mangum.
Participants are also asked to bring a suggested donation of two non-perishable food items to help the Houston Food Bank.
Participants are allowed to bring up to four boxes of paper documents to be securely destroyed.
Documents that can be shredded include anything that contains sensitive information, like addresses, Social Security numbers and account numbers that you no longer need, or you want to keep out of the hands of "Dumpster divers."
After Iron Mountain securely destroys the paper documents, the processed materials will be transported to paper mills to be turned into pulp for recycled paper. This process greatly reduces pollution, preserves landfill space and saves trees, water and even oil resources.
