Harris Co. Sheriff's deputies investigating attempted armored car robbery

Two suspects are on the run after shooting at the armored car

HOUSTON – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted armored car robbery in northwest Houston.

It all happened Wednesday afternoon at Wirt and Hempstead. One man who was washing his car not far away said there was 15-20 shots fired, including several into the windshield of the armored car. He said he only had one goal.

"Don't get shot, don't get hit by a ricochet and get outta here," said the witness.

The driver of the armored car took off and went down the street where he met police.

Firefighters who saw the shooting appeared to be giving statements to police.

That witness told us, "I live right down the street, two or three doors from the car wash. I'd rather have these people caught and put away instead of them coming back here and finishing what they tried to do."

The two suspects fled on foot.

Houston police and the FBI are investigating.
