HOUSTON – A family in northwest Houston had to dodge bullets when gunmen opened fire on their home.
Houston police said that around 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jimmy Ledesma heard a noise outside his apartment on Hanka near Gessner. When he looked outside to see what made the noise, investigators said he found four armed men wearing shirts that read "police."
For some reason the gunmen opened fire, shattering the glass on the patio door window, officials said.
Investigators said Ledesma was able to dive out of the way to avoid getting hit, but was injured by bits of shattered glass.
"I can't believe it," Ledesma said. "I can't believe I'm still here. He shot at me about five to seven times. He just kept on shooting. I ran ... I ducked out of the way."
Bullets flew through the home and made their way into the bedroom where the man's girlfriend and 1-year-old baby were laying in bed, officials said. The girlfriend managed to hold onto her baby and roll off the bed without getting hit.
"I hid in between my bed and my chair," Angela Zendejas said. "I have my daughter on top of me, holding her really, really tight, not letting her go."
Investigators said the shooters punched a maintenance man in the ear at some point during the crime.
So far, police said they don't have a motive for the crime.
