Former NFL player crashes SUV into fire truck on 288

HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter was hurt after a sport utility vehicle driven by a former NFL player slammed into the back of a firetruck in southwest Houston, police said.

Crash scene investigators said the fire truck was stopped with its lights and sirens on around 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.

The firefighter was helping a disabled motorist, when the driver of a black Range Rover slammed into the back of the fire truck.

Houston police confirmed to Local 2 that the driver of the  Range Rover was former NFL player Brian Iwuh.

Twenty-nine-year-old Iwhu was born in Houston. He went to the University of Colorado and played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.

Police said Iwhu was trapped and had to be cut out of his vehicle. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Iwhu could face charges, according to J.R. Roberts with the Houston Police Department.

"The DWI task force officer that's at the hospital will make a determination and present the case to the assistant district attorney," said Roberts.

One firefighter was hurt. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
