Firefighters battle southeast Houston house fire

Firefighters find no one inside despite reports from neighbors

HOUSTON – Houston firefighters took extra precautions after putting out a fire in southeast Houston on Tuesday morning.

The fire started about 4:14 a.m. at a home on Winbren Street and Ennis Street near the Third Ward.

Sheila Howard, who lives next door to the home, said flames were shooting from it when neighbors banged on her door.

Howard said she was not only worried about her home, but also a woman named Pam, who often stays there.

Firefighters said the home is vacant, but squatters are known to stay there. They searched the home three times, but found no one inside it.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
