Firefighter from Houston missing in West

Cyrus Reed, 2003 graduate of Elsik High School, still unaccounted for

HOUSTON – One look at Cyrus Reed's Facebook page and it's obvious firefighting is his passion.

The one-time Houston resident graduated from Elsik High School in 2003 and people who know him tell Local 2 he moved to Central Texas to fight fires.

Reed is one of many first responders still unaccounted for. The news has hit the Elsik High School community especially hard.

Many of the teachers who taught Reed ten years ago are still teaching there. Even current students, who have never met Reed, are upset.

"I would have never thought anybody close to this school would be all the way over there," said Lucia Aremus, an Elsik High School senior. "Just shows you how small the world is."

People in the southwest Houston neighborhood said the Reed family still lives in the house where Cyrus grew up, but that they left for West as soon as they heard the news Wednesday night.

Everyone is hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

"I think we need to do everything we can to pray as hard as we can," said Jensie Lawson.  "Because at this time we need to all link together as one."
