Famous "Galveston" song remade for island

GALVESTON, Texas – The country music song "Galveston" has been remade in a marketing campaign to boost tourism.

"Galveston" was made popular by Glen Campbell in 1969.  The Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau has purchased the rights of the song for use in an upcoming summer marketing campaign to encourage travelers to visit the island.

"The 'Galveston' song is so iconic worldwide, and to many people, it is already considered an anthem for the island," Galveston CVB Marketing Director Melody Smith said.

The song is also featured in the island's 2013 Official Tourism Video that was released on Thursday.

Galveston has undergone a tremendous makeover in the five years since Hurricane Ike.
