Family walking across America in memory of daughter

HOUSTON – A Houston family is packing their bags for a trip from California to Florida—but they're not flying or driving.

On Aug. 4, The Cobb family will begin walking nearly 4,000 miles in memory of their daughter Julia. She passed away at the age of 8 from Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer.

"We hope the walk sends the message that there is life after tragedy," said her father, Jonathan Cobb.

In memory of their daughter, Jonathan and his wife, Jennifer Cobb, formed the JuCan Foundation, which is a nonprofit for pediatric cancer awareness and research. Now, inspired by two happy trips with Julia, they're walking from Disneyland in California to Disney World in Florida.

"We picked Disneyland and Disney World to honor the journey that Julia made," Jennifer said.

The Cobb family hopes to raise $413,000 with their cross-country adventure. And it's not just Jonathan and Jennifer making the journey.

Twelve-year-old Jonathan, 10-year-old Jenna and 3-year-old Jaxi are also walking aside their parents.

They say anyone is welcome to join.

"We welcome anyone to walk with us, be it a mile, two miles," Jonathan said. "Even if it's just a pat on the back to say we're for you."
