Failed carjacking in Sugar Land

Suspect could only drive an automatic

SUGAR LAND – Sugar Land police are looking for the suspect who tried to steal a car that he couldn't drive.

Police said a man was fishing at a lake near the Southwest Freeway when a man with a gun walked up to him and demanded his keys.

Officials said the suspect did not know how to drive a stick shift, so he forced the owner to drive him north to Stafford.

The man said when they arrived, the suspect got out of the vehicle near Kirkwood and Wright.

The victim said he kept driving and was able to flag down a Stafford police officer at a nearby gas station.
