Employees hide as robbers smash into NE Houston Fiesta

Robbers targeted high-end electronics

HOUSTON – Employees at a northeast Houston Fiesta grocery store were forced to hide after robbers smashed into the front door.

It happened around 3 a.m. Thursday, just before the store on Jensen Drive and the Eastex Freeway opened.

Officials said several stock clerks were working inside when the robbers smashed through the front glass.

"They heard the glass breaking and ran into the restroom," said Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department.

When patrol officers pulled up to the store, the robbers were gone, taking with them a lot of expensive merchandise.

"The suspects had made entry into the store, broke out several display cases and stole a lot of electronics, TVs, laptops and cellphones," Lt. Crowson said.

The store remained closed while crews worked to clean up the mess and assess what was stolen.

No one was hurt.

Police said they are using surveillance video to help track down the robbers.

They said the same store was robbed just a few weeks ago.
