KATY, Texas - The principal at Katy elementary school sent a letter home to parents informing them about an incident involving a student on their campus caught with a Swiss army knife and a BB gun, that was not loaded.
"A student who saw the items informed the teacher, and the student who brought them was immediately removed from class, and the items were confiscated by Katy ISD police," wrote principal Leslie Smuts. "At no time did the student make a threat towards other students."
Parents who spoke to Local 2 were pleased with how the school's principal handled the situation.
"Katy's pretty safe," said Ralph Morales. "I wasn't too worried about it. They keep us informed with emails."
"I'm glad that they told us," said Jenny Fonseca. "It's a good thing to know and be aware of what's going on."
The district said appropriate disciplinary action was taken against the student who brought the items onto campus.
It's unclear what grade the student is in.
