HOUSTON - The City of Houston has approved tailgating at the new Dynamo stadium downtown when the team takes the field there for the first time this season.

A city law prohibits open containers and outdoor drinking downtown, however, the Houston Dynamo asked for an exception and the city approved it.

Amendments passed by the council made an exception for public drinking at sports venues.

The amendments also authorize tailgating before Rockets and Astros games.

The new Houston Dynamo BBVA Compass stadium will open in May.
