Driver trapped by live wires in Galleria-area

HOUSTON – Centerpoint Energy crews spent Friday morning repairing a power pole that fell over and trapped an unsuspecting driver in the Galleria-area.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the wooden utility pole had rotted from the ground, which caused it to fall. A car driving through the area was stranded by live lines until crews could shut the power off, said police.

The accident knocked out power to 1,000 Centerpoint customers living along Voss Road from Memorial Drive to Westheimer Road. Crews quickly diverted the lines, restoring power to nearly all of the customers hit by the outage.

The Houston Police Department helped block off roads while crews worked to fix the pole. No injuries were reported.
