Deputy, city worker hit; drivers arrested

Victims were in construction zone

HOUSTON – An off-duty Harris County deputy and a city of Houston employee were injured Tuesday after a crash in a construction zone in southeast Houston.

Police said they were talking next to a white pickup truck inside the construction zone on Bay Area Boulevard and Seawolf Drive around 1:45 a.m. A woman driving a green car approached and hit the back of the pickup, officials said. The truck then hit the deputy and the city worker.

Both were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

A second car nearly crashed into the same accident scene. The man driving that vehicle was also arrested for driving while intoxicated.

His passenger was taken into custody for public intoxication.
