Daughter finds elderly parents dead inside home

HPD says the couple's cause of death is a mystery.

Houston – Family members and neighbors are sharing warm memories of an elderly couple found dead in their West Houston home Monday night.

The Harris County medical examiner's office is scheduled to conduct autopsies on the bodies of 86-year-old Robert Broussard Underwood and his wife, 92-year-old Marie Cox Underwood.

Houston police say the couple's daughter went to the home after not hearing from her mother and father for several days and discovered their bodies in the dining room of their home in the 12000 block of Briar Forest.

"They were a happy couple, just great people," said a man who answered the door at the Underwood's home but did not want to be identified.

The Underwoods are survived by an adult daughter and a grandson.

Houston police are investigating the case, but according to homicide detective C.G. Cardenas, there are no signs of foul play or forced entry into the home.

Neighbors say they are stunned and saddened by the deadly discovery. The Underwoods were quiet and kept to themselves, but one neighbor said she hoped the couple died of natural causes together.
