Mosquito spraying by zip code

HOUSTON – Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services ground treatment trucks were out Monday night concentrating on areas that have seen a significant number of mosquitoes.

Several zip codes around town were sprayed based on surveillance results. The areas sprayed includes parts of the following ZIP codes: 77429, 77070, 77379, 77066, 77009, 77026, 77013, 77020, 77002, 77007, 77019, 77027, 77045, 77006, 77023, 77021, 77017 and 77587.

"Oh yeah, real good," said Daniel Lopez who lives in zip code 77009. "It feels real good to hear that they're going spray."

Lopez said he worries about the West Nile virus and is glad the county is being proactive in his neighborhood.

"It doesn't worry me too much, but my kids especially because I have a newborn at home," he said. "I don't like doing a lot of outdoor activities. It really does concern me as a parent."

How to protect yourself from West Nile virus.

The county has been doing surveillance and spraying certain neighborhoods all summer long.

Health experts still warn residents to protect themselves against the potentially deadly virus by wearing insect repellent, remove any standing water around your home and avoid being outdoors at dusk and dawn when the mosquitoes are most active.
