Credit union burglars arrested after chase

HPD: Three men in custody

HOUSTON – Three men are expected to face charges after police said they broke into a southeast Houston credit union.

Houston police said they received an alarm call early Tuesday morning from the Smart Financial Credit Union on South Wayside Drive at Griggs Road. When officers arrived, they spotted three men exiting a broken window on the side of the building.

According to police, the three men jumped into an SUV and took off. After calling in K-9 units and a helicopter, police tracked the trio down in a nearby neighborhood and arrested them.

Investigators said the inside of the credit union was trashed, though the suspects did not get away with anything because the money was locked in a safe.

The suspects will likely face charges for burglary and evading Arrest.
