Construction prompts multiple weekend closures on 290

HOUSTON – Construction will cause several closures on Highway 290 beginning Friday night.

There will be a total closure for 290 east and westbound mainlanes at Barker Cypress. The Barker Cypress Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, July 21. Authorities say motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the Barker Cypress exit and will reenter the freeway past Barker Cypress. Barker Cypress motorists will be detoured to the 290 frontage road and U-turn at Telge Road or Skinner Road.

290 westbound mainlaines from West 43rd Street to Pinemont Drive will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured to the frontage road at the W. 43rd Street exit and can reenter past Pinemont Drive or use Hempstead Road as an alternative.

East and westbound lanes on 290 at the 610 West Loop will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Motorists driving on the 610 West Loop southbound will be detoured to the 610 North Loop eastbound exit at North Shepherd Drive and Durham Drive, U-turn and enter 610 westbound mainlanes to 610 southbound.

The detour will be modified at midnight Sunday, according to authorities. Motorists traveling to 290 westbound from the 610 West Loop northbound will be detoured to the 610 North Loop eastbound exit at North Shepherd and North Durham, U-Turn and and enter 610 westbound mainlanes by taking the 290 westbound connector ramp to the right.

The 610 North Loop westbound lanes at the 290 connector ramp exit will close from 11:30 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. The detour will be at the 290 westbound connector ramp and exit at Mangum Road, U-turn to the 290 eastbound and 610 West Loop southbound frontage road. Motorists will continue on the frontage road over Hempstead to Old Katy Road. Those driving to Interstate 10 eastbound will be detoured left to Old Katy Road, to Washington Street to I-10. For those driving to I-10 westbound, the detour will go right to Old Katy Road to I-10. Drivers on the 610 West Loop southbound will detour right on Old Katy Road and left on North Post Oak Road to 610.

290 westbound lanes from Mueschke Road to Bauer Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. The detour will be to the frontage road at the Fairfield Place exit. Motorists can re-enter the freeway past Bauer.
