Conroe pastor disbands church's troop after Boy Scouts of America revises membership policy

The pastor says it's about condoning a particular lifestyle and sexual orientation

CONROE – The senior pastor of a Conroe church disbands the church's Boy Scout troop and Cub Scout pack following the Boy Scouts of America's decision to revise its long-standing policy on membership.

Pastor Jay Gross, of West Conroe Baptist Church, released this statement Monday:

"We were disappointed to hear of the Boy Scouts of America's  decision to revise its long-standing policy on membership.

"The revision is in clear disagreement with scriptural teaching and, as such, the core values of our church.

"The revision is not about the inclusion of all boys, as the original membership policy states that all boys are welcome in scouting.

Rather, it is about condoning a particular lifestyle and sexual orientation.

"The Boy Scouts of America has historically been an institution that shaped the heart of our country.

"There are many wonderful men and women that give of their time and energy in scouting leadership.

"We simply could not agree with the new membership policy and made the decision to disband our Boy Scout troop and Cub Scout pack."
