City of Houston names today 'Texans For DQ Day'

HOUSTON – With a full slate of stars and nearly more cameras on the sidelines than people, the Texans and Atlanta Falcons' joint practices have been entertaining and productive.

"I believe we're a better team than we were three days ago," Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said. "And I think having these two practice sessions against Atlanta really helped our team."

On Thursday, the headlines were dominated by a gesture that didn't occur on the gridiron. The City of Houston proclaimed Aug. 14 "Texans For DQ Day," a tribute to Texans' offensive lineman David Quessenberry, who's battling lymphoma.

"It's pretty incredible what a city can do. It wasn't just us as ballplayers, it was the entire city and organization, and all the fans being able to get behind this and gain some traction and obviously it got to the mayor's office and they wanted to be able to make it official so it speaks a lot for DQ," said Texans center Chris Myers.

A few weeks ago, the entire franchise had shirts made to show their support and raise awareness in the fight against lymphoma. On Thursday, fans joined the coaches and players by donning their support for DQ with shirts. Even the Falcons got in on the trend.

"For the whole city of Houston to come out and be able to show their support for DQ and our brothers from Atlanta, the Falcons, come out and show their support as well, it means a lot," Myers said.

Offensive Tackle Derek Newton said, "You never want to be alone in this situation, so when you've got so many organizations, coaches and fans doing it throughout the league, it's great, man; love the support."
