Chase ends in crash at IAH terminal

Suspect to face drunk driving and evading charges

HOUSTON – A man was arrested after a chase that ended with a crash at Terminal D at George H. W. Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston police said.

Police said they believe the man fell asleep at a stoplight at the intersection of the North Sam Houston Feeder Road and Ella Boulevard.

After the light changed several times and the car remained stopped, an officer approached the car and tapped on the window, according to police.

The driver then woke up and sped off. He led police on a chase eastbound on the North Sam Houston Parkway to the Hardy Toll Road.

The driver eventually exited at the airport connector to John F. Kennedy Boulevard and continued to Terminal D, where he lost control of the car and smashed into a metal guard rail.

The unidentified driver received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to investigators.

The man told police he sped off because he thought he was being robbed.

He is expected to face driving while intoxicated and evading arrest charges.
