HOUSTON - A driver was seriously injured in a major car accident in west Houston.
Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, HFD responded to a car crash on Memorial Drive and Westlake Park Boulevard. When they arrived on scene, firefighters found a driver pinned inside his Ford Taurus.
Officials said the driver was headed west on Memorial at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car, slid across oncoming traffic lanes, and slammed into a wooden utility pole. Firefighters said the force of the crash split the pole in half, causing the power lines to hang low.
Firefighters rescued the driver, who was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The power company replaced the broken pole.
The driver's name has not been released.
