Boat slams into bridge, injuring 3

CONROE, Texas – A boat slammed into a bridge Monday night, shearing off the front of the vessel and injuring three people on board.

Crews headed back out to Lake Conroe Tuesday to check for more debris and any damage to the FM 1097 bridge.

The boat crashed into the bridge support post in Lake Conroe around 11 p.m. Monday.

"They contacted 911 because they were on their way back to the marina from eating at a local lakeside dinner establishment," said Lt. Dan Cain with the Montgomery County Precinct 1. "That's why we have the no wake zone around these bridges -- for this reason. You never know when a wave's going to hit or you're just going to miss and hit one of those pylons."

The front of the boat was sheared off. The two men and one woman inside the boat were injured. The driver of the boat had to be rescued when he was pinned under the dash. They were hospitalized at Conroe Regional Medical Center in stable condition. The victims are between the ages of 47 and 61. Their names were not released.

Cain said the injuries were minor mainly because the boat was traveling less than 30 mph.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Officials are waiting on toxicology reports to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
