Bar employees chase burglars, duo arrested

HOUSTON – A Houston bartender got quite a scare after two suspects tried to bust into the bar where she works.

It happened at about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning at Beamer's Place located at 12057 Beamer Road in southeast Houston.

Candi Beasley said the bar had been closed for about an hour, when she and her boss heard the suspects trying to break in through the back door and then the power went out.

"It was the electricity being pitch black that scared me," Beasley said. "I didn't know if they were already in the building, so I just froze.  I couldn't move."

Turns out the suspects didn't get inside, but when Beasley and her boss looked out the window, they saw them driving away.

"So I jumped over the bar and we got into my boss' car," Beasley said. "They came around the corner and we chased them down."

The chase ended about five miles away at Intervale and Clearwood, when the suspects crashed into a ditch.

They tried to get away, but by then Houston police officers were on the scene.

The driver of the getaway car was arrested for driving with a suspended license. The passenger was arrested on local warrants.

"I'm just glad they got them," Beasley said. "And that I wasn't in the bar by myself."

Beamer's Place should reopen at its regular time at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
