'Bad granny' robs disabled woman in store

Used disabled woman's credit card

HOUSTON – Police are looking for a woman they dubbed the "bad granny"; she's accused of stealing from a disabled woman inside a Harris County store.

The crook first started making small talk with a disabled 54-year-old woman -- who was also recovering from a recent stroke -- in a Ross Dress for Less.

"During the course of the conversation, she offered to help the victim put her shoes on," said Sergeant Melody Ester, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.  "The victim described her as being kind of pushy."

Investigators said while the two women interacted, the "not-so-good-samaritan granny" somehow swiped the victim's credit card from her wallet.

"She knew that going in, so she had the perfect intent to go and steal the lady's card," said Sgt. Ester.

Surveillance cameras caught the woman walking into a Staples store, where investigators said she went shopping -- on the victim's dime.  She also racked up charges at another store and a gas station.  Investigators said all told, she spent a grand total of $500.

The investigation is ongoing.  If you have any information about who is responsible for this crime, call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
