Arson investigating overnight apartment fire

Firefighters arrive to smoke and flames

Houston – Arson investigators are looking into the official cause of an apartment fire overnight in west Houston.

Families in the Carrington Park Apartment Homes rushed outside in a panic around midnight Friday, while firefighters rushed in to put out the flames.

"We went to bed and the next thing I know someone is banging on my door," said David Harris, who lives next door to the unit on fire. "I got up and saw smoke out of the front of the apartment and someone yelling 'fire!' His front door was open and all I saw was black smoke coming out and I'm hollering for him to come around the back."

"When we arrived we saw smoke and fire coming out of the downstairs," said James Henson with the Houston Fire Department. "There was one man inside when the fire started but he was able to get out."

One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but was not transported to the hospital. His unit was damaged by fire, and the unit next door suffered smoke damage.
