Amber Alert cancelled for Texas City girl taken by her mother

Texas City Police say Alexxa Rivas was found unharmed Monday morning

TEXAS CITY – An Amber Alert for a Texas City girl has been canceled after the 11-year old was found safe in southeast Houston early Monday morning.

This isn't the first time police have had to deal with mother. It is good that they found the little girl, because officers believed the mother was suicidal and had a known drug problem.

Hours after an Amber Alert went out, signs of a kidnapped girl were seen flashing throughout our area. The FBI joined the investigation with Texas City police after detectives believed 11-year-old Alexxa Nycole Rivas was kidnapped by her mother, who does not have custody of her.

Officers tell us her mother snatched her from her grandmother's house and left in a car that looked similar to a maroon Chrysler 300. Less than 24 hours later, the girl was found safe in southeast Houston.

Police arranged for the mother to drop off the little girl with a grandfather. She is now safe.

According to police, officers have had to deal with her before because of a domestic disturbance call.

Right now the mother is not in custody, but charges are pending with the outcome of the investigation.

The Amber Alert was cancelled just before 5am Monday.
