Officials say the driver then ran a red light at West Lake Houston Parkway and slammed into the side of a red Corvette that was traveling southbound.

Police say the male driver in the Corvette died at the scene, according to police. His female passenger was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Officials say the driver of the Trail Blazer, identified Monday as 23-year-old Craig Welch, was taken into custody.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office announced Monday that Welch, of The Woodlands, has been charged with one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.

Police said a male passenger from the SUV ran away from the scene.
