HOUSTON – A fire tore through a northeast Houston home Tuesday.

The flames broke out around 3 a.m. at a home on Joe Louis Lane and Wilburforce Street. When crews arrived, they saw flames coming from the one-story wooden home. They were able to put the fire out in a matter of minutes, but the home was a total loss.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire, but their three dogs were trapped inside.

A next door neighbor, who called 911, managed to get two of the dogs out the front door. A third dog was found alive.  Firefighters said they spotted the animal cowering in a back bedroom and carried him to safety.

No firefighters were hurt.

Arson investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
