3 arrested after shootout with officers

HOUSTON – A shootout that involved Houston police officers ended in arrests.

The incident started around midnight Tuesday near the intersection of Beatty near Stratton in southeast Houston.

Police said three officers were near an apartment complex conducting a narcotics stop when they heard gunfire. Officials said the shots were coming from a pickup truck as it approached the complex.

Officer S. Grimes said he was in fear for his life and fired his weapon.

No one was injured.

"I saw cops running for their lives, getting shot at by other individuals. Cops didn't know what to do. They came back shooting at people, crazy right here," said J. Maldonado, a witness.

The three people inside the truck ran, but were captured a short time later.

Authorities are trying to figure out why the bullets were fired in the first place.
