Mayor Annise Parker: City Public Works employee Jeremy Garcia struck, is in critical condition

HOUSTON – Two people working near the Metro North Office park were struck by lightning Friday, and one of them was in critical condition.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker tweeted City of Houston Public Works employee Jeremy Garcia was struck at Metro North Office Park in the 1700 block of Seamist about 11 a.m.

"Thanks to Station 62 for their quick response to Mr. Garcia. They gave him a chance," Parker wrote.

"It was so close. Everybody jumped. It was so scary," said Ruhi Tab, who works in the Metro North Office Park. "I'm hoping he'll be alright."

Witnesses said they heard a loud thunder clap, then were told someone was struck by lightning. Another man who works at the office park said one of his coworkers was struck, too.

"We all ran out there and our coworker was actually working on him [Garcia]. He got struck also, slightly burned," said the man.

He said the coworker was thrown five feet but said he was okay.
