2 shot to death, baby shoved under bed

Family friend heard baby's cry and alerted police

HOUSTON – Two people were killed and another was hurt in a shooting at a north Houston apartment complex, investigators said.

Houston police said a concerned co-worker of one of the victims went to a unit at Pine Lakes Apartments in the 1300 block of Green Road about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The door was open, so the co-worker went inside, found blood on the walls of a bedroom and called 911, detectives said.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman dead. Another man was critically injured, police said.

All of the victims appeared to have been shot in the head, investigators said.

"My nephew was kind he was a loving person he just didn't deserve that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time," said a man who said he's family of the victims gunned down in their apartment late Wednesday afternoon.

The man said he is trying to figure out why they were targeted. He said his relatives lived in the apartment at Pine Lakes off Greens parkway.

A 5-month-old baby girl found in the apartment was alive. She was found stuffed under a bed.

"As patrol officers explained to me, that is the only way the baby could have gotten there, been slipped under the bed probably as a precaution," said John Zitzmann of the Houston Police Department.

The baby girl was taken to a local hospital. She was later released to relatives.

Detectives have not released any information about possible suspects, but officers said there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
