1 dead after shooting at SW Houston apartment complex

Police say robbery was motive

HOUSTON – One man is dead after a shooting at a southwest Houston apartment complex Saturday morning.

Houston police say two men returned to the Casa Miranda Apartments on Fondren near West Airport around 6:15 a.m. after spending time at a nightclub.

There was a knock on the door. When one of the men answered, two other men barged in shooting, according to police. The man who answered the door was shot. He died on the scene.

The other man inside the apartment was in a back bedroom at the time of the shooting and was not hurt.

Both suspects fled and are still missing.

Neighbors said investigators were in the area for about seven hours, trying to put all the pieces together.

"I was actually just laying in bed, next thing you know I heard about four gunshots. I jumped up, scared to come outside," said Boogie Garrett who lives nearby.

When the bullets flew, they weren't confined to the apartment. A bullet shot through a unit next door and grazed a crib where a baby usually sleeps. Fortunately the baby was not in the crib at the time of the shooting.

Police think robbery is the motive for the shooting, but do not know what was taken from the apartment. They also believe the suspects followed the victims home.
