A Southeast Texas man has been convicted of opening fire outside a bar and killing a fellow patron by shooting him nine times.
Jurors in Galveston on Thursday considered the penalty for 44-year-old Paul Anthony Crayton of Texas City. The jury on Wednesday convicted Crayton of murder and aggravated assault. He faces up to life in prison.
The Galveston County Daily News reports Crayton testified he shot 38-year-old James M. Martin Jr. in self-defense on May 23, 2011. Martin was found on a sidewalk outside a Texas City bar. The men earlier argued inside the lounge.
Texas City police accused Crayton of returning to the bar and shooting at 48-year-old Derek Yell, who barricaded himself in a restroom. Yell wasn't hurt.
Crayton was arrested four months later in Houston.
