Temperatures on roller coaster for Houston this week

Wednesday night cold front will put lid on brief mid-week warm-up

HOUSTON – Our first cold front of the week moved through on Sunday, bringing relief from last week's near-90 degree heat.

On Wednesday, we'll see a sharp warm-up ahead of a second front that moves through Wednesday night and ushers in a second wave of cooler air.

Ahead of Wednesday night's front we'll feel temperatures rise into the upper 80s, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year.  We could also catch a passing shower ahead of the front, between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., but our chances will only be about 20 to 30 percent.  The majority of rain will be well to the north of Houston.

Behind the front, on Thursday, clouds will clear out quickly and temperatures will be noticeably cooler.  With a north wind picking up, highs will only be in the lower 80s with overnight lows dipping into the mid-50s.

Almost as quickly as the cool air comes in, it's out again.  A south wind takes over by Saturday and temperatures will once again spike, leaving us feeling the summer swelter as opposed to the fall freshness.
