HOUSTON -

Two teenagers were taken into custody after police say they stole a pickup truck and led officers on a chase.

It all started around 2:30 a.m. when a Houston police unit saw the pickup run a red light at Airport Boulevard and Monroe Road near Hobby Airport.

Police say the officer tried to pull the truck over, but the driver refused and sped off.

Officials say the driver eventually crashed into a tree after leading police on a short chase.

Police say the 17-year-old passenger stayed in the truck after the crash and was taken into custody. The 19-year-old driver got out of the truck and took off running. He was eventually caught and arrested by police.

Authorities say the teens were driving a stolen truck that had recently been taken from a nearby apartment complex.

The teens used a screwdriver and pliers to break into the steering column, according to police.

The driver is facing felony evading and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges.
