Teen to be tried as adult in girl's satanic ritual killing

HOUSTON – The 16-year-old boy charged in the brutal satanic killing of a teenage girl will now face up to 40 years behind bars.

Victor Alias appeared in juvenile court Wednesday morning and a judge ruled to certify him as an adult and face the charge of capital murder.

Prosecutors say back in February Alias, along with 17-year-old Jose Reyes, lured Coriann Cervantes, 15, to a vacant Clear Lake apartment where they raped her and mutilated her body as part of a satanic ritual.

According to court documents, they wanted to kill her to sell their souls to the devil.

Prosecutors describe the crime as heinous and extremely violent.

Reyes is being held without bond on capital murder charges. Neither teen is eligible for the death penalty under Texas law because both are under the age of 18.
