HOUSTON – A teen was shot and killed outside of a southwest Houston apartment complex.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night, Houston police rushed to the Shadowtree Apartments in the 9400 block of West Sam Houston Parkway North after residents reported hearing a loud popping sound.
"The witnesses heard what appeared to be a firecracker," said I. Ulloa with HPD Homicide.
According to reports, what witnesses thought were firecrackers was actually a gunshot. Detectives later found a 19-year-old man, who they believe lived at the complex, lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.
"We heard there may have been a disturbance in another area of the complex," said Ulloa.
Detectives said that disturbance may have lead to the deadly shooting.
Investigators spent hours collecting evidence; however, they said no witnesses to the shooting came forward.
The 19-year-old victim's name has not been released until his family not immediately released.
Investigators told Local 2 they do not have a description of the suspect or a getaway car.
Police aren't sure about a motive. They are still looking for witnesses.
