Teen hit, killed by car in Spring

SPRING, Texas – A teen was hit and killed by a car Thursday night while he was walking along a Spring road with two other teens.

The crash happened about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Hirschfield Road and Whittaker Way in northeast Harris County.

Precinct 4 deputy constables said a 15-year-old boy was walking with a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy when the group was hit by a vehicle. The 15-year-old died, and the other two teens were injured.

"I heard a bunch of sirens," Jeremy Sunday, a neighbor, said. " (I) didn't really know what was going on. It was out the norm here. I didn't really know what was happening."

People who live nearby said the area is not good for foot traffic.

"This street here is pretty unsafe if you walk down here, even down there where the blind curve is," Sunday said.

Sunday said drivers speed down this section of road all the time. He said the road is poorly lit, there are no sidewalks and the only area people can walk is the grassy ditch.

Sunday said he doesn't know another way to prevent this sort of thing from happening again unless officials decide on a massive overhaul.

"You would have to change the whole road, there's no other way around it," Sunday said.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash did stop and is being questioned, deputy constables said.

No charges have been filed.
