Teen arrested in connection to deadly shooting at east Harris County home

HOUSTON – The family of a Houston man killed during an apparent robbery Thursday morning wants answers as to why their loved one was killed.

Alfredo Vasquez, 28, was shot and killed around 3:30 a.m. at the 14200 block of Duncum Street, in east Houston.

Prosecutors have charged Jose Elizarras, 18, with murder.

According to witnesses, about seven gunshots were heard. Another witness said they heard several gunshots at about 2 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they found Vasquez shot multiple times. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died.

Shell casings littered Duncum Street, following the shooting. Bullet holes could also been seen in walls. Investigators said no one else was hurt.

"My nephew was very hard working," said Vasquez's uncle, who asked that his identity be concealed.

Elizarras was arrested by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and transferred to the Harris County jail, authorities said.

"We think this has something to do with the people he was hanging out with," Vasquez's uncle said, referring to the motive behind why his nephew was shot.

Investigators said Elizarras shot Vasquez twice during an attempted robbery. Officials said Vasquez told an investigator before he died that a man shot him while trying to rob him.

Witnesses then led investigators to Elizarras, who is in custody at the Harris County Jail.

Vasquez's family told KPRC2 funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24 at San Jacinto Funeral Home.
