Teens hospitalized after violent crash; speed a factor, police say

ATASCOCITA, Texas – At least two teens were hospitalized after a violent crash in Atascocita early Tuesday morning. Investigators said the driver was speeding.

According to friends of the victims, seven teens were joy riding around 2:15 a.m. in a subdivision off Will Clayton Parkway near Lake Houston when they slammed into a water fountain. The car flipped onto its side.

A 14-year-old girl was flown to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Another teen was rushed to the hospital by ground. The two other teens were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A woman who knows those involved said some of the teens who did not suffer injuries ran away from the scene but were later found and questioned by law enforcement.

Deputies do not believe that alcohol was involved.

No charges have been filed.
