Suspicious package sent to Harris County District Attorney's Office

HOUSTON – There was a scare Wednesday at the Harris County District Attorney's Office after the assistant DA received a suspicious package.

The incident happened Wednesday morning after two people who handled the package at the DA's office at 1201 Franklin complained of skin irritation. Houston police were called and brought the package to the HPD building on Riesner.

Once at HPD, the officer called HazMat to test the package.

"We determined that the substance was not any kind of chemical, biological nuclear weapon or anything. There is nothing on the letter that is harmful to anybody," said Mark Holbrook, with the Houston Police Department. "The letter is a complaint from somebody about how they are being treated at a mental health facility."

Detectives say it's unclear why those people had the reaction after opening it.
