HOUSTON -

A suspected burglar has been arrested after police say he cut hole after hole in a southeast Houston strip center to get inside several businesses.

The suspect first broke into the back of a Payless Shoe Source, and then cut holes through the walls of three different stores. Officers say he was after cash.

Now the suspect is charged with multiple counts of burglary. According to investigators, he used a tool kit to carve out holes through the walls. Overnight, while stores on the strip mall were closed, police say he went through the Payless, then through an empty suite, then to the Subway and finally to the Melrose Clothing store.

At around 6 this morning, Subway employees began to arrive and police tell us those employees heard the suspect using a saw to cut through the wall. They called for help, and before the thief could take off, officers arrested him.

Police tell us the suspect is in his 30's  and they found him covered in debris. Police say they did find cash on him.
