HOUSTON -

Authorities said a 19-year-old suspect is back in custody after leading police on a chase through southwest Houston.

Officials said the suspect was released from jail Tuesday morning for stealing a car and fleeing from police.

Then around 10:30 a.m., Houston police said officers tried to pull a 2004 white Chevy over for a traffic stop at W. Ridgecreek and Danford, but the driver did not pull over.

The chased ended about three minutes later near Ridgecreek and Condon.

Houston police said the suspect had an illegal weapon with him when they pulled him over. He was taken into custody.

During the chase, police said the suspect's vehicle hit a substitute teacher who was on her lunch break from a nearby school. She was  transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.

A letter from Fort Bend Independent School District was sent to parents, informing them the teacher had been taken to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the district says Ridgegate Elementary was secured for about 30 minutes because of the nearby police activity.

Officials said the HPD Accident Unit was called out to assess the scene.
