Harris County sheriff's deputies said Caldwell shot Almando Owens, 25, outside the Primos Corner Food Store in the 14100 block of Tomball Parkway about 10:40 p.m. Friday.

Owens was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Detectives said Caldwell left the scene after the shooting, but he came back while investigators were there. Witnesses to the shooting identified him as the gunman, deputies said.

Investigators said Caldwell and Owens were friends.

Caldwell has denied shooting Owens and has refused to cooperate in the investigation, deputies said.

Caldwell is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond.
