A man is facing murder charges after Pasadena police say he killed a man with a piece of wood.

On Sunday, Pasadena police were called to a residence in the 600 block of Fresa Road.

According to officers, Robert James Cardenas, 48, was involved in several altercations with residents of the home and other guests.

The investigation revealed there was a party at the residence on Saturday night.

After the party ended and the guests left, police said Cardenas was overheard talking with Richard Finney.

Police said Cardenas was still agitated and Finney was attempting to calm him down.

At some point, the argument escalated and Cardenas struck Finney with a two-by-four piece of wood, police said.

Cardenas left the victim on the ground, believing he had knocked him out.

The next morning, one of the residents of the home found Finney's body beside the house and called the police.

Cardenas is charged with murder. His bond has been set at $100,000.
