Surveillance video shows fake cops who robbed family

HOUSTON – Surveillance video of a home invasion in which two armed men pretended to be police officers when they robbed a family at a southwest Harris County home was released on Tuesday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the attack happened in the 13700 block of River Kegg, in the Kingspoint subdivision, about 6 a.m. on March 26.

The woman who lives in the home said she had just walked out of the house with her two young children to take them to school when the men rushed up to them and told them to go back inside.

The robbers tied up the woman and her husband with plastic tie wraps, ransacked the home and stole property and cash, investigators said. The husband was hit a few times, officials said.

The woman said the children, ages 4 and 6, cried during the attack, but the men did not hurt them.

Investigators said the attack lasted nearly four hours. Surveillance cameras inside the home captured video of the man.

The robbers were described as black, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and wearing dark-colored clothing, baseball caps and badges around their necks. "Security" was written on one of the shirts, officials said.

The men left in either an Acura or a Honda Civic.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
