Students return to class after freeze

HISD asks on Twitter for suggestions for make-up days

HOUSTON – Thousands of Houston-area students returned to the classroom on Wednesday after their second snow day in less than a week.

At Houston ISD's Forester Elementary School, parents and students were all smiles as the kids headed back to school.

"I'm ready for them to go back," said parent Brittny Love who walked her two boys to school. "It's too much. I read like 20 books, played Xbox. Oh my, I needed that break.

Tuesday's winter weather gave the kids the day off. And many parents agreed with HISD's decision.

"They were protecting our children, so I feel they made the right decision on that," said Love.

"I think it was a little too cold for the kids to come out," said parent Kesha Brown.

HISD has not made a decision on when the two snow days will be made up, but asked on Twitter for suggestions.

"We have to make up the 2 days we missed, and we know losing holidays isn't fun," tweeted @HoustonISD Wednesday morning. "If you could have your way, when would we make them up?"

About an hour later, HISD tweeted, "Thanks for your suggestions about make-up days. "Never" and extending early dismissal days are NOT options. Adding 2 days at end is popular."
