Thousands of students are braving the winter blast Tuesday morning as they headed back to class after a long winter break.

Some elementary students in Clear Creek ISD got to stay warm at home on Tuesday after routine maintenance on Monday found a broken heater at Go Forth Elementary.

After a two week break and record low temperatures, crews with Alief ISD went school to school checking on heaters and pipes.

The routine maintenance check took place on Monday in preparation for the first day back for students after the Christmas break.

The buses started rolling out at 6 a.m. as they headed to pick up all their students.
